Brilliant Cut vs Rose Cut

Brilliant Cut

As the name implies, this cut was designed to maximize a diamond's brilliance, which is how much light goes through the stone, bounces around, and comes back out, aka that gorgeous sparkle. A brilliant cut usually features around 58 facets of different shapes and sizes, strategically placed all along the stone to create the most sparkle. Our Lab Diamond Petal Ring and Round Lab Diamond Ring are fantastic examples of brilliant-cut diamonds.

Rose Cut

A rose-cut gemstone has a flat bottom and a dome like a cabochon, but it isn't smooth on top. Instead, this cut features 12 to 24 triangular facets, which start out small at the edges of the stone and get bigger towards the center to mimic the beautiful pattern of a rose in bloom. This design allows light to play across the curved top of the stone and reflect against the flat inside to create a stunning sparkle. Our Moissanite Branches Ring and Diamond Leaves Ring are the perfect examples of rose-cut stones.
